WATERTOWN - Taylor Martin and Matt Gage combined on a three-hit shutout as the Amsterdam Mohawks blanked the Watertown Wizards, 7-0, on Sunday night at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
Amsterdam (6-2) has won five straight and is now a game ahead of the second-place Newark Pilots and Oneonta Outlaws for the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League lead.
Martin allowed three singles over six innings, walking three and striking out three. He escaped bases-loaded jams in the first and third innings. Gage earned a three-out save, retiring all nine batters he faced and struck out six.
Ed Charlton led off the game with a solo home run, as all Mohawks' starters had at least one hit. Evan Stephens had three hits and a run scored, while Charlton finished with two hits and two runs scored. Jeff Broehm had two hits, an RBI and a run scored, and Nathan Gomez and Josh Nethaway, each had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Chase Green scored two runs.
The Mohawks will host the Albany Dutchmen at 7:05 p.m. tonight at Shuttleworth Park?It also will be Amsterdam Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Night.
