Thanks for placing the flags on graves

June 17, 2012
The Leader Herald

The Gloversville Parade Committee, Robert Perrella, Harold Gordon, Kenny Rockwell, Ambrose Anderson, Linda Bullock, Linda Fisher, Karen Dwyer-Smith, Mike Perrella, Todd Mercer, Joni Wilson and Brian Perrella, would like to sincerely thank the volunteers who placed nearly 3,000 flags on veterans' graves.

The following are from the Gloversville Women's Alumni Club: Sue DeLilli, Sue Zambri, Sue Maryanopolis, Traci DiMezza, Jessica Fielding, Maria Hallenbeck Brown, Brian Brown, Lana Ruggiero and Joni Wilson, who placed flags and picked up trash coordinated with the Fulton County cleanup.

Those from the Insurance Women of Fulton County, Catharine Levee, Toni Hallenbeck, Rocky Snell, JoAnne Gifford and Elaine Giaquinto, placed flags in Ferndale Cemetery.

Also volunteering every year are Todd Mercer, Brian Perrella, Michael Perrella and James Schrader.

We place flags at the following cemeteries: Old and new Prospect Hill, Kingsborough, Knesseth Israel and Ferndale, with the exception of the veterans plots at Ferndale.

We keep records from year to year to maintain accuracy. We purchase U.S.-made flags (which decreased in price 4 cents each this year) with generous donations from our community.

We would like to say thank you to the caretakers for making our job easier by taking excellent care of the properties.

I feel compelled to respond to a recent letter to the editor addressing the noise the parade made. I am extremely grateful to all the "noisy" participants, spectators, and especially the planes, for honoring our veterans in their own way. This letter is proof you cannot make all of the people happy all of the time.
