Joseph Earl Chamberlain

Joseph Earl Chamberlain, 97, of Mountain Road, Mayfield, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. He was one of fifteen children born to Margaret and Lewis Chamberlain of Owls Head, N,Y. on August 17, 1914.

Joseph attended school in Owls Head, N.Y. until the family moved to Bleecker, N.Y. in 1929.

Joseph was a dedicated and hard worker starting his first job with Martin and Naylor Co. of Gloversville, N.Y. where he was employed from 1934 to 1949. During that same time he was employed part time with the Economy Cab Company. In 1949 he began employment with the Railway Express where he continued to work faithfully until his retirement in 1967. He was most proud of the many awards he received for his safe driving record while employed with the Railway Express.

His many interests included the love for working on automobiles, trout fishing, making his homemade soups and among other things he loved to sing. There was always a song for every situation and if he couldn't think of one, he would make one up. He loved spending time with his family and friends along with his two dachshunds, Dapples and Sophia.

In addition to his deceased wife, Ida Lorraine Chamberlain, who passed on June 10, 1995, and his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Earl (Sonny) Chamberlain; and his daughter, Violet Orr. Daughter-in-law, Francis Ward; sisters, Irene, Esther, Grace; and brothers, Lewis, Lawrence, Norman, Robert Clarence and Roger, all predeceased him.

He is survived by three sons, all of Mayfield, Douglas Chamberlain (Sue Frasier), Ken (Sherri) Chamberlain and Joseph Ward; one sister, Florence Darrah of Plattsburgh; one brother, Carl Chamberlain of Gloversville. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren; thirty one great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, June 16, 2012, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Gloversville Funeral Service, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at noon. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
