Calvin B. Beekman "Mr. Beek," age 80, of Gloversville, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Beekman was born November 12, 1931, in Gloversville, New York. He was a native of Johnstown and a son of the late Kalvin and Florence Jones Beekman. Upon graduating from high school, Calvin honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for many years with Conrail as a Railroad Maintenance worker, retiring in 1994.
In his spare time, he worked for Dyvac Vacuum Repair service with his good friends, Mrs. Frye and the late Mr. Frye.

Calvin was a member of the Johnstown A.M.E. Zion Church. He was an avid sports fan, a standout player of Johnstown High sports teams and part of the original Johnstown Colonials. His other hobbies included camping, playing card games, notably poker and visiting the racetrack.
Mr. Beekman is survived by his wife, Jeraldine Pollard Beekman, whom he married on August 2, 1958; three daughters, Crystal Beekman of Johnstown, Joy Beekman of Gloversville and Martha Beekman of Powder Springs, Georgia; one son, Richard Beekman of Gloversville, one brother, Lorenzo (Carol) Beekman; one sister, Isabella Pollard; nine grandchildren, Stefanie, La'Tesha, Craig, Nathaniel, Lucas, Justice, Avery, Jessica and Jensen; ten great-grandchildren, Billy, Hakeea, Hakeera, Julius, Aric, Brayden, Cameron, Nino, Mathew and Za'Drian; one aunt, Arlee Jones; one daughter-in-law, Dawn Beekman; and two godchildren, Jennie Knowlton and T.J. Lallo; and many, many other dear family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Steven Beekman on April 26, 2012; two sisters, Bessie Robinson and Harriet Beekman; two granddaughters, Shauna Beekman and Justine Beekman; one godchild, Florence Robinson-Davis; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Pollard.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the conclusion of calling hours at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Melvin Brown, pastor of Sojourner Truth A.M.E. Zion of Albany, officiating.
Cremation will follow at the Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
