Stefanie C. Hurd, age 98, of Gloversville, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home.
Born in Herkimer on February 8, 1914, a daughter of the late John Czech and Mary Bednarczuk Czech.
Stefanie was employed as a glove worker until 1955 when she attended Oneonta State Teachers College. She received her teaching degree and was employed at the Perth Central School as an elementary teacher. She retired in 1979 after 24 years. During her teaching career she furthered her education an obtained a Master's degree in education. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Hurd was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Gloversville.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Hurd of Gloversville; grandchildren, Katrina Hurd, John R. (Dawn) Hurd, Kristeena (Mark) Cyr, Theresa (Matt) Hassinger; great-grandchildren, Kari, Brittany, Kayli and Lyndee Hurd, Whitey and Kasey Cyr; daughters-in-law, Christine Hurd and Marjorie (Allen) Jennings; three beloved pets, Andrew, LilyMarie and Cosmo.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wesley Jay Hurd; her son, Wesley John Hurd; a granddaughter, Shawna Cyr; a brother, Henry Czech; and a sister Wanda Czech.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Emmanuel Baptist Church, James Street, Gloversville. The Rev. Peter Ellis will preside.
Friends and family may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
