NORTHVILLE - The village school district is facing a lawsuit from a parent after a child allegedly was injured after falling on an icy school sidewalk.
Beth Wanke filed the suit in state Supreme Court in Johnstown on June 4 on behalf of herself and her 9-year-old son. The suit alleges the school district "negligently and carelessly allowed the students to proceed without salting, sanding or otherwise maintaining" the area around the school doors on Jan. 30.
According to the lawsuit, the boy slipped on icy pavement in front of the school, resulting in a broken nose, broken and injured teeth, a concussion and other injuries. Wanke "lost the society, consortium and services" of her son and is responsible for medical bills, the lawsuit says.
The lawsuit does not specify an amount of damages Wanke is seeking.
Northville Superintendent Kathy Dougherty said in an email the school has turned over information to its insurance carrier "and that we are confident that it will be handled appropriately."
