MAYFIELD - The husband of the woman found dead in Mayfield on Monday was arrested Tuesday on an unrelated charge and is being questioned about her death.

Fulton County Sheriff Thomas Lorey said this morning the victim was Kathryn M. Alling, 54, of 127 Delaney Road, Mayfield.

Lorey said her husband, Brent Scott Alling, 44, of the same address, was arrested by state police on a charge of driving while ability impaired by drugs and is being held at the Fulton County Jail on $2,500 bail.

A news conference will be held at 10 a.m. today.

Kathryn Alling's body was found, naked, early Monday along Tyrrell Road by a town crew picking up trash.

"We got fingerprints from the victim at the autopsy," Lorey said. "She's in the system. [We] confirmed her identity."

Brent Alling was pulled over on Route 30 near Christie Road, a mile from where he lives and two miles from where the body was discovered. He was driving a Dodge pickup truck, Lorey said.

Lorey said this morning he was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. He is being held at the Fulton County Jail on $2,500 bail after being arraigned in Mayfield Town Court by County Court Judge Richard C. Giardino.

The autopsy showed no definitive signs of death, and the state police are awaiting toxicology reports, Lorey said.

He said the police are labeling the death suspicious but not a homicide at this time.

"We don't have anything to prove that it's a homicide," Lorey said. "We don't know the cause of death. We may not know for several weeks pending toxicology reports."

The sheriff said Kathryn Alling's body was dumped between 24 and 36 hours before it was discovered. He said it appeared no one tried to hide the body.

"It would appear to me that in this instance, whoever left the body where it was wanted her to be easily found," Lorey said. "It indicates to me that someone was close to the victim and didn't want her to be where no one would

find her."

Lorey said Brent Alling previously was arrested on assault charges, but not against the 54-year-old victim.

This is a developing story and will be updated in today's edition.
