JOHNSTOWN - The following is for the Johnstown 50 Plus Club, housed in the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center, 109 E. Main St.
The club recently observed their Memorial Day candlelight dinner with a prayer service led by the Rev. Brian Dykema from the Johnstown Reformed Church. The group remembered those lost from 1966 - the year of its organization - to date, as well as recognizing all those who've served this country.
On Thursday, club members will host their monthly business meeting. Members and guests will review upcoming events.
On June 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a glucose/cholestrol screening at the center. At 1:15 p.m., a guest speaker from the American Red Cross will be at the center to discuss being ready for emergencies. All are encouraged to attend the free afternoon program, a news release said.
Members should get their tickets to the club's annual luncheon being catered by the Hot Dog Hut on July 5, with lunch being served at noon. The afternoon entertainment will be Mixed Company from Dolgeville, who will provide some nostalgic songs. Advance tickets are available for $10 at the business office.
The club's summer bocce league is forming. Anyone interested can visit the business office.
The center travelers will be away Wednesday and Thursday for the trip to the Finger Lakes region.
The next trips with openings are the Saratoga Casino trip July 16 and the Gems Along the Mohawk trip July 26. The officers are encouraging members to plan to attend the club's summer picnic at Pine Lake on Aug. 9.
