Marie E. Moore, 84, of Fultonville, N.Y., passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospice Inn in Albany on May 22, 2012, after a brief illness. The daughter of the late Henry "Harry" and Clarinda Wile Bennett, she was born June 20, 1927, in Utica, N.Y.
Marie attended school in Van Hornesville, N.Y., and went to college at SUNY Albany where she earned a MA in English Literature and later a master's in library science. She taught French and English in Fultonville and Schoharie school districts and taught English in Canajoharie for many years.
After her years as a teacher, she served as the director of the Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery. She was a member of the Canajoharie Garden Club, the Monday Evening Club, AAUW, Retired Teachers Association and sat on the boards of the Mohawk Valley Library Association and Frothingham Free Library in Fonda. Marie enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking and was devoted to her family.
Her loving family includes daughters, Faith Moore of Fultonville, N.Y. and Cindy Stubbs of London, England; a grandson, Alexander Higgins-Turner; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A brother-in-law, Harold Moore and sister-in-law, Marilyn Moore also survive. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Moore, whom she married on August 22, 1953; and a beloved grandson, Joseph B. Higgins-Turner.
Funeral services for Marie will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072. Family and friends are invited to visit the evening prior on May 30, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Frothingham Free Library, West Main Street, Fonda, N.Y. or to St. Peter's Hospice Inn, 315 South Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208.
