Rose Underwood

Rose Underwood, 98, of Amsterdam, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 13, at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam. Rose was born on July 26, 1913, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Francesco San Giovanni and Maria Antonia (Danucci) San Giovanni.

Rose worked at Chalmers Knitting Mill in Amsterdam until her marriage on May 4, 1938, to Herbert Underwood. In 1945, they moved to Gloversville, where they resided until they retired, spending their winters in Florida and summers at their home in Mayfield. They shared 58 years of marriage until his death in April 1996.

Rose was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who brought sunshine to the lives of all who knew her. Her ready smile and gentle ways touched everyone's heart. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert; her son, Herbert III; and her grandson, Michael Pontente Jr. Rose is survived by her loving daughter, Rosemary (Ray) Langley of Mayfield, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Kathleen (Craig) Weaber of Wellington, Fla. and Lynn (Scott) Cramer of Lantana, Fla.; grandson, Kevin Langley of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; great-grandsons, Matthew Weaber of Wellington, Fla. and Dustin Cramer of Lantana, Fla.; devoted and loving nephew, Edward (Jean) St. John; and niece, Donna (Tony) Ferraro; and several other nieces and nephews.

A prayer service will be held at Finocan Funeral Home on Monday, May 21, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jerry Oliver presiding. The family has asked in lieu of floral offerings that memorial contributions may be made to River Ridge Living Center, 100 Sandy Drive, Amsterdam, NY.
