MOHAWK - A home health aide has been charged by Montgomery County sheriff's deputies with identity theft following an investigation that lasted several weeks.
Deputies charged Susan M. Merritt, 41, of 8 High St., Amsterdam, with identity theft. Deputies said Merritt, who had been employed by the victim, stole personal information and used it to open a credit card account in the victim's name. Deputies said Merritt made more than $2,500 worth of purchases on the credit card.
Deputies said they first responded to the complaint March 30 and charged Merritt on Wednesday.
Merritt was arraigned in Town Court and released. She is scheduled to appear in Amsterdam Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
