I recently attended a Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education meeting. I was disappointed to hear that only two candidates had filed petitions for three vacancies. It was announced that a write-in vote would determine the outcome of the race and that anyone interested in being a write-in candidate should review the rules for such a procedure.
I am interested in being a write-in candidate for a seat on the GJSD Board of Education. I was educated in the Johnstown school system and also had a 33-year teaching career at Johnstown High School, retiring in 2009. During this time, I served the district as a member of the restructuring committee, as a union leader, as an adviser and as a coach.
More recently, I have remained active as an organizer of the Fulton County high school art show, as a member of the advisory board for the Johnstown School Museum and as a helper for the Pleasant Avenue School Homework Club.
I would be proud to serve as a member of the Board of Education in Johnstown.
Please vote "yes" for our school budget and consider taking the time to write my name as your write-in candidate.
Thank you.
