FORT HUNTER - The Fulmont Roadrunners Club's 29th annual Mule Haul road race, a 5-mile event, will take place June 17 (Father's Day), in Fort Hunter.
The starting time will be 9 a.m., with day-of-race registration permitted up until 8:30 a.m.
Race headquarters will be a field next to the firehouse on Main Street in Fort Hunter.
All activities, including registration, parking, and the start and finish of the race will take place at or near this location. The race course includes paved roads and a cinder trail through the woods, following the route of a towpath once traveled by mules hauling barges along the Erie Canal.
The entry fee will be $14 for club members and $16 for non-members if pre-registered, and $20 for all on race day.
A part of the proceeds go to the club's Dern Memorial Scholarship for college-committed high school runners. The race fee includes a catered picnic lunch for all runners and their families, along with race souvenirs for the first 200 who register. There will be free fun runs for the youngsters with first-place medals and goodie bags for all who compete.
In the adult race, there will be awards for the first three males and females in 13 age divisions, and to the three father-son and father-daughter teams with the fastest combined times in two age divisions. There also will be awards for the runners who finish in the middle of the pack.
