GLOVERSVILLE - City police arrested 21 teens and young adults on alcohol charges and charged the man accused of providing them the booze under the city's social host law.
Aaron B. Thompson, 20, of 119 Lincoln St., was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and violating a provision in the social host law, which prohibits consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors on private property.
Capt. John Sira said about 11:30 p.m. April 14 police were dispatched to Thompson's address on reports of a loud party.
When officers arrived, they found about 28 people in the rear garage behind Thompson's residence.
"It's not uncommon," Sira said, for police to respond to these types of underage drinking parties. "We've had a rash of these types of calls that we've handled. With the onset of nice weather, people are getting outside more."
Sira said police released the individuals at the scene upon further investigation. That investigation resulted in the charges against the teens and young adults.
"This is really an inordinate amount of people," Sira said. "I can't remember the last time we ended up arresting 20 people, but this type of situation - it's really not out of the ordinary to run into parties like this that may have a fair number of people partaking in a violation."
Twenty-one teens and young adults were charged with unlawful possession of alcoholic beverages with intent to consume, which is a violation.
