MIDDLETOWN - Caroga Lake Volleyball Club traveled to Orange County on April 21 and 22 for the IREVA Regional Championships.
Overall, the club had five teams place in the top three in the gold bracket, two of which won the championship. Two other Caroga Lake teams reached the finals of the silver bracket.
At the event, IREVA announced beginning this year, it will implement a moment of silence before bracket play at regionals for Caroga Lake's founding director and late head coach, Jim Gabeler, as well as inscribing the trophy for the gold championship with his name.
The Caroga Lake 13s team finished first out of five teams to win the gold championship, going 8-0 in pool play.
The 13s team included Laura Sharpou (Wheelerville), Jordan Marshall (Mayfield), Hannah Moore (Fonda-Fultonville), Aspen Darling (Gloversville), Paige Klock (Herkimer), Emily Littlejohn (Fonda-Fultonville), Megan Ryder (Broadalbin-Perth) and Zoe Simonson (Broadalbin-Perth).
The Caroga Lake 14s-1 team finished first out of 20 team in the gold bracket after going 16-0 in pool play.
The 14s-1 team included Miranda Nethaway (Fonda-Fultonville), Kaylee Bumpus (Mayfield), Hanna Breda (Johnstown), Emily Zawisa (Galway), Emily Orminski (Galway), Brittany Orminski (Galway), Annie Sinicropi (Fonda-Fultonville), Rachel Sherman (Ballston Spa) and Gabby Smith (Broadalbin-Perth).
The Caroga Lake 14s-2 team placed third in the 20-team gold bracket, going 12-4 in pool play. The 14s-2 team lost to the Caroga Lake 14s-1 team in the semifinals. The 14s-2 team included Ashley Madeiros (Mayfield), Ashlin Cosselman (Wheelerville), Sarah Delvichio (Galway), Gianna Cruz (Fonda-Fultonville), Morgan Catania (Johnstown), Lauren Blanchard (Gloversville), Christina Pavlosky (Gloversville) and Brittany Hunter (Herkimer).
The Caroga Lake 15s team placed second in the 14-team gold bracket. They reached the finals before losing to Lakeside after going 14-4 in pool play. The 15s team included Alex Bielli (Gloversville), Jenna Putnam (Gloversville), Chelsea LeBlanc (Broadalbin-Perth), Grace Campbell (Canastota), Rachel Jones (Galway), Keyana Fariello (Broadalbin-Perth), Madison Kasudo (Whitesboro), Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville) and Abby Ryan (Johnstown).
The Caroga Lake 16s team placed third in the 22-team gold bracket. Caroga Lake went 15-1 in pool play before losing to the Syracuse Syrv in the semifinals. The Caroga Lake 16s team included Annie Stock (Johnstown), Madison Gurga (Broadalbin-Perth), Katelyn Pierce (Gloversville), Michaeline Rubas (Dolgeville), Carly Lonczak (Whitesboro), Regan Reed (Broadalbin-Perth), Madeline Bovee (Johnstown), Cory Lais (Galway) and Kaylee Robinson (Edinburg).
The Caroga Lake 17s team won the 13-team silver bracket. The 17s team included Sarah Wyzomirski (Fonda-Fultonville), Morgan Eberly (Whitesboro), Elizabeth Hayward (Johnstown), Brandi Blaszak (Whitesboro), Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown), Katie Zawisa (Galway), Gabrielle Hale (Johnstown) and Allison Lysiak (Broadalbin-Perth).
The Caroga Lake 18s team placed second in the silver bracket out of 22 teams. The Caroga Lake 18s team included Lora Allen (Dolgeville), Zara Hyde (Johnstown), Marybeth DeCuyke (Johnstown), Brynn Hlozansky (Johnstown), Caitlyn Hayward (Johnstown), Emily Robinson (Edinburg), Emily Martin (Galway) and Tessa Reed (Broadalbin-Perth).
