H.S. Baseball Roundup: Sir Bills fall short at Queensbury

QUEENSBURY - Charlie Peltz threw a two-hitter to lead Queensbury to a 3-1 win over Johnstown in a Foothills Council baseball game Monday.

Peltz struck out 14 and walked just two on his way to the complete-game win.

Kyle Gilligan had an RBI double for the Spartans (7-1 overall, 5-0 Foothills), while Kevin Schultze also doubled.

Joe Nellis took the loss for Johnstown, allowing four hits, walking six and striking out seven.

Matt Szurek had an RBI double for Johnstown (4-4 overall, 3-2 Foothills).

MAYFIELD - Josh Whittaker pitched a two-hitter to lead Middleburgh to a Western Athletic Conference win over Mayfield on Friday.

Middleburgh scored once in the first and one in the sixth on its way to the win.

Mayfield slipped to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in WAC play with the loss.

OPPENHEIM - Dolgeville/Oppenheim-Ephratah swept a non-league doubleheader from Northville on Saturday at Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School.

In the first game, Dolgeville/Oppenheim-Ephratah posted a 10-5 win, using a seven-run second inning to break the game open.

Alex Johnson allowed seven hits and struck out five batters to earn the complete game win in the opener for Dolgeville/Oppenheim-Ephratah (4-5 overall).

Ryan Holt, Kasey Foster and Daniel Fox all had two hits for Dolgeville/Oppenheim-Ephratah, while Johnson had a triple and four RBIs. Holt, Foster, David Levey and Luke Nourse all had doubles for Dolgeville/Oppenheim-Ephratah.

Jon Kiernan had a double for Northville (0-8 overall).

Johann Doerrer earned his first varsity victory in the second game for Dolgeville/Oppenheim-Ephratah.

Johnson, Foster and Jesse Warner each had two hits for Dolgeville/Oppenheim-Ephratah. Foster had a double and a triple, while Nourse added a triple. Warner added a double for Dolgeville/Oppenheim-Ephratah.

VOORHEESVILLE - Despite registering just seven hits, Voorheesville had four go for extra bases in a non-league win over Johnstown on Saturday.

Mike Chiseri, Mike Young and Kevin Connolly each had doubles for the Blackbirds, while Anthony Scaccia added a triple.

Voorheesville scored three times in the fourth and four times in the sixth to seal the win.

Jason Roth had three hits for Johnstown, while Joe Nellis added two singles.
