Gillen loses twice at Olympic trials

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Johnstown graduate Mark Gillen lost both of his matches Sunday at the 2012 United States Olympic Wrestling Trials at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on the campus of the University of Iowa.

In his first match, Gillen lost 1-0, 0-1, 2-0 to Donavan Depatto of the U.S. Marines in the 60-kilogram weight class.

In his second match, Gillen lost 5-5, 1-0 to Chad Vandiver of Sunkist Kids in a rematch of their championship matchup at the last-chance qualifier.

Vandiver won the first meeting, 7-0, 7-2.

Gillen qualified by placing second in the last-chance qualifier at the University of Northern Iowa on March 31 and April 1.
