Mrs. Gloria S. Davis, a longtime resident of Phelps Street in the town of Mayfield, went peacefully to rest with her devoted son at her side at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, N.Y.
She was born December 2, 1925, in Johnstown to Lewis C. and Lela Peterson Sutton. Gloria was a 1943 graduate of Johnstown High School. She enjoyed a long and happy marriage to Emmett R. Davis until his passing in March of 2010. Beside her parents, she is also predeceased by her loving sister, Madelyn S. Hotaling.
Gloria worked as a legal secretary in the area. She was a talented singer and enjoyed performing with good friend Maryland Warner in a barbershop quartet "The Chord-Jill-Aires" and in a national group "Sweet Adelines." Favorites among her many interests were traveling and making great memories with family especially at the summer camp in Adirondacks.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Stephanie Swanson (Robert) of Gloversville and Jeffrey M. Smith (Mary) in the town of Johnstown; stepchildren, Carol Robbins (Charles) of Rutland, Vt., Robert D. Davis (Cathy) of Boonton, N.J. and Emmett P. Davis (Gail) of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Eric R. Swanson (Shannon) of Easley, S.C., Tiffany K. Smith (Michael), Nevin J. Smith (Krystina) and Alisondra Smith, all residing in the area; and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, in the old section of Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the North Main St. United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078 or the Central Association for the Blind, 507 Kent St., Utica, NY 13501.
