FULTONVILLE - State police say a Rochester man who led troopers on a high-speed chase that began in Montgomery County on the New York State Thruway was killed when his car struck a tree in Albany.
The chase began when troopers spotted a reportedly stolen car on the Thruway near the village just before 5 a.m. today. The unidentified driver drove east at speeds topping 100 mph before striking a tree at Albany Exit 23 about 20 minutes later.
State police said they believe the driver had been trying to exit the highway.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car was reported stolen in Canastota, about 20 miles east of Syracuse.
