JOHNSTOWN - A student at the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Educational Services was arrested on a felony drug charge three weeks after she allegedly sold drugs on the school campus.
Police said the 15-year-old girl, whose name was not revealed by authorities because of her age, was arrested at 11:53 a.m. Monday at state police's barracks in Glen. She has a Richmondville address and was a BOCES student, according to state police.
She was charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal sale of a controlled substance, which was upgraded to a felony because the alleged sale was on school grounds.
State police said they received a call from the school around 10 a.m. Jan. 11 that a student may have been in possession of a small quantity of unknown pills.
After being questioned by school officials, the student turned over the pills to a school official "who safeguarded them for the safety of the student and because school policy had been violated," according to state police spokesman Mark J. Cepiel.
Police did not identify the type of pills. School officials turned over the pills to state police Jan. 11. A state police investigator questioned the student at the barracks Monday, where she was arrested.
She was issued a juvenile appearance ticket to appear before the Montgomery County Probation Department, state police said.
BOCES Superintendent Patrick Michel this morning confirmed the incident but wouldn't comment on a school-discipline issue. He said he was pleased his staff "was vigilant and stopped" the activity.
