STRATFORD - The Stratford Senior Club met Jan. 10 at the Community Center for a covered dish luncheon with 30 members in attendance.
The new officers for 2012 are: Marjorie Youker, president; Margaret Klages, vice president; Nelda Cheney, secretary; Diana Massicotte, treasurer. After greeting members, Youker led in the Pledge of Allegiance and the blessing by the assistant chaplain, Caroline Drake, followed by lunch.
Youker opened the meeting, with Cheney doing roll call, and read the secretary's report and Massicotte gave the treasurer's report, which both were accepted as read. JoAnn Higgins gave the sunshine report with three birthdays and one anniversary noted for this month.
The main topic of discussion was the raising of the annual dues and the constitution and bylaws. After much discussion, it was voted 26 to two to keep the dues at $12 a year and the club will do more fundraising.
Today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be a clothing rummage and bake sale at the Stratford Community Center. All the clothes that can fit in a large paper bag will be $5.
A committee consisting of Marie Comstock, Betty Syke and Rosie Mastracchio will check into more permanent coverings for the tables.
The next meeting will be Feb. 14. Higgins will make a mild chili and Syke will make a vegetarian chili; corn bread will be donated by members. Since the meeting will be on Valentine's Day, the club tradition has been to share cards. Robert Morse of Goin Country will provide the entertainment at 12:30 p.m.
The first fundraising of 2012 will be a raffle for certificates from Kelly's Meat Market, Little Falls. There will be three drawings, one for $50 and two for $25, with tickets selling at $1 each. The drawing will be at the April meeting.
