ST. JOHNSVILLE - A 20-year-old Palatine Bridge resident was seriously injured early Sunday when he jumped out of the back seat of a moving vehicle, village police said.

Police said Joshua W. Suits, of 72 W. Grand St., was a passenger in a 2005 Chrysler mini van operated by Kimberly A. Ulman, 17, of 426 Clinton Road, Canajoharie.

Police said Ullman was driving east on Route 5 at 4:10 a.m. when Suits opened the sliding door on the driver's side of the van and jumped out.

A police officer on routine patrol saw the incident and responded immediately. The St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department assisted, police said.

Suits was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam by the St. Johnsville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps, then airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

A hospital spokesman said Suits was admitted. His condition was unavailable.

Ulman was issued a ticket for driving at night with a junior operator's license, police said.
