GLOVERSVILLE - The city Department of Public Works has changed an earlier decision and will pick up leaves and brush at curbside on three days in May this year.
All leaves should be in paper biodegradable bags. No loose leaves will be picked up, and no leaves in plastic bags will be picked up.
For years, the DPW picked up leaves and brush every Wednesday during the spring and summer, but budget cuts over recent years have left it shorthanded, according to DPW Director Heath Hardman.
Hardman announced recently that the brush and leaf collection would be canceled, but public complaints about abruptly ending the service motivated the city to continue it, with the following schedule:
- May 4 - leaf and brush pickup for parts of the city where garbage is collected on Mondays and Tuesdays.
- May 11 - leaf and brush pickup where garbage is collected Thursdays.
- May 25 - leaf and brush pickup where garbage is collected Fridays.
The DPW will pick up loose leaves in the fall.
