Last Friday, I experienced the most horrific day of my life. I awoke to my left arm totally numb as well as the left side of my face, which also had some weird ticks.
I proceeded downstairs, grabbed my coat and shoes and jumped in my car. I knew something was horribly wrong. I headed for Nathan Littauer Hospital, which is only a couple of blocks away but seemed miles away at the time. The symptoms were getting so bad that I could barely see as I pulled into the parking lot. I parked in the first space I came to and exited my vehicle. As I looked toward the emergency room entrance, I spotted two staffers (or in this case, angels).
As I asked for help, they swooped me up and rushed me inside while calling to the others that I was "stroking out." Bodies came from all directions as they feverishly attended to me. Alone, in pain and frightened beyond words, I was helpless as they treated and stabilized me for the trip to Ellis. Once at Ellis, I was admitted to the neuroscience intensive care unit. It was the most harrowing experience of my life.
If it were not for the wonderful nurses and doctors at these two establishments, I don't know what would have happened to me. And so, I send my most heartfelt gratitude to these "angels." God bless you all.
