Jean Harrington, 82, of Union Mills Road, died Monday morning, February 14, 2011, at her daughter's home following a short illness.
She was born in Saratoga Springs on September 5, 1928, a daughter of Frank and Margaret Calkins and was educated in local schools. Jean moved to Schenectady as a young adult and lived there until moving to Broadalbin 17 years ago.
She worked in the cafe at the Carl Company for several years. Mrs. Harrington became a member of the State Street Presbyterian Church in 1966 and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Schenectady. When she moved to Broadalbin, she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and once again taught Sunday school.
She was predeceased by her husband, James H. Harrington, who died in March 1994.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sharon Urquhart and Pamela Sizemore, both of Broadalbin; a sister, Esther Calkins of Gloversville; and three grandchildren.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A Memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 54 West Main St., Broadalbin, with the Rev. Linda Martin, officiating. There will be a luncheon in Fellowship Hall after the service. A graveside service will take place at Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, at a later date. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M.
