SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A husband and wife have pleaded guilty to stealing more than $400,000 from a Syracuse-area church over five years.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (http://bit.ly/UAYXbq ) that 57-year-old Mary Meyer and 55-year-old John Osborn pleaded guilty in Onondaga County Court to grand larceny charges before their trial was scheduled to start Monday.

The Syracuse couple admitted to stealing $444,000 from the United Methodist Church of Manlius between January 2008 and March 2013.

Prosecutors say Meyer was church treasurer and Osborn was head of the finance committee. The stole the funds by writing checks to themselves from the church's account.

Meyer faces 3 to 9 years in state prison and must pay back $200,000 in restitution. Osborn could face more than 30 years in prison. Both will be sentenced Sept. 29.
