ELLENVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — A developer who wants to build a casino in the Catskills says financing will not be possible if another casino is approved closer to New York City in Orange County.
The comments Tuesday from the developer who wants to build a casino outside Ellenville in Ulster County comes a day after a second Catskill casino applicant dropped out because of the prospect of an Orange County project.
Michael Treanor, who is proposing to build a casino on the site of the former Nevele (NEH'-vuh-lee) resort, says they intend to file an application by the June 30 deadline. But he says financing is going to be contingent on there not being a casino in the neighboring county.
Proponents of a Catskills casino fear an Orange County competitor would siphon business.
