Gloversville-Mayfield swims past Amsterdam

GLOVERSVILLE - Two days after losing their first Foothills Council meet, the Gloversville-Mayfield girls swimming and diving team was back in the pool Friday.

The Lady Sea Dragons posted a 102-69 win over Amsterdam at the Gloversville Middle School pool.

Gloversville-Mayfield won all 12 events on its way to the victory.

Mary-Kate Poulin (200-yard freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Justine Woodend (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) each won two events for the Lady Sea Dragons.

Jade Woodend (200 individual medley), Jordan Capobianco (100 butterfly), Hayley Ferrara (500 freestyle), Alex Blanchard (100 breaststroke) and Vicki Allen (diving) all won events for Gloversville-Mayfield, which also won the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.

Christina Santos (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle) posted a pair of second-place finishes for Amsterdam. Julianna Conti (50 freestyle), Karli Seeley (100 butterfly), Sarah Czelusniak (500 freestyle), Toni Tiemann (100 backstroke) and Emily Hastings (100 breaststroke) also placed second in their respective events.

Amsterdam also placed second in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.

On Wednesday, Amsterdam lost 91-89 to Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk at the Lynch Literacy Academy pool.

Each team won six events on the day.

Savannah Hotaling (200 individual medley), Melanie Melewski (500 freestyle), Delany McDonough (100 backstroke) and Jessica Cooper (100 breaststroke) won individual events for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, which also won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Conti (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) won two events for Amsterdam, while Tiemann (200 freestyle), Brianna Persico (diving) and Santos (100 butterfly) also posted wins.

Santos, Tiemann, Conti and Geena Sollecito teamed up to win the 400 freestyle relay for Amsterdam in a time of 4:34.32.
