Saturday night at Fonda Speedway was a perfect example of how fast things can change in this sport.
Matt DeLorenzo came into the night with the modified points lead, but after double features, finished the night trailing Bobby Varin by 14 points.
Jimmy Davis got off to a strong start this season at Fonda and was the early point leader at Fonda and Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. Things changed and he slid back in both points standings. A week ago, he destroyed the No. 41 modified in a tumble that ended up over the backstretch wall and inches from the river.
He came back to the track Saturday with a new car that his team put the finishing touches on earlier that afternoon. Following the example set earlier this year by Craig Hanson, Davis went from wrecker to checkers and picked up the victory in the second modified feature.
If you did not enjoy watching the action in the late stages of the pro stock feature Saturday night at Fonda Speedway, you are not a racing fan.
Chucky Dumblewski, Roy Fifield, Ken Gates and Rocky Warner swapped positions, not paint, while running side-by-side,
Warner ended up with the victory with Gates second, Dumblewski third and Fifield fourth with less than a second separating the top four at the checkers.
Glen Ridge Motorsports Park will host the final leg of the Harry's Auto Street Stock Series Friday night.
After three races, Dennis Joslin tops the series points standings over defending series champion Justin Knight 162-146. Brian Cosselman, Chuck McSpirit and Jason Samrov are locked in a tight battle for third place with Cosselman two points ahead of McSpirit and four up on Samrov.
The regular-season street stock points battle is still up in the air with McSpirit topping the division with 648 points, while Cosselman and Knight tied for second, 10 points back, Cosselman has accumulated his points without the benefit of a feature win. Rob VanAernam is fourth with 634.
Craig Hanson and JaMike Sowle are locked in a tight battle at the top of the modified points standings with Hanson clinging to the lead 659-646. Both have three feature wins so far this season.
Tony Farone has not won a feature at Glen Ridge yet this season but sits atop the DIRTcar sportsman standings. He holds a 20-point advantage over D.J. Brundige, 624-604.
Rocky Warner is in control of the DIRTcar pro stock points battle leading Buddy Hencke 644-606, while Kerrie Hollenbeck has parlayed eight feature wins into a 136 point lead in the six-cylinder division and Ken Hollenbeck holds a 36 point lead over Laurie Fallis in the four-cylinder cruiser division.
Also, Friday night at Glen Ridge, the kiddie rides that were postponed last week by double features have been added to this week's program.
King of Dirt Series
Another series wrapping up its points battle this weekend is the King of Dirt Series at Caroga Creek Raceway.
Nathan Armstrong, Nick Scavia and Alyssa Swartz have swept the first three races of the series and top the stock novice, Junior 2 and Junior 2 Pro respectively.
Swartz also leads the Junior 2 Gold standings by five points over Colton Butterfield.
Other King of Dirt Series leaders include Ricky Armstrong (Junior 1), Ethan Darling (Stock Light), Dave Mclear (Stock Heavy), Ed Schultz (Animal Heavy), Brendan Darrah (Jr. Sportsman Champ), Lydia Rueckheim (Junior 2 Champ), Cody Clark (Jr. Slingshots), and Randy Myers (All-Star Sr. Slingshots).
