Melanie Szumowski, the daughter of Richard and Debbie Szumowski of Gloversville, was united in marriage to David Lawrence, the son of Jay and Tammy Lawrence of Fulton, Oswego County, at 4 p.m. April 17.

The ceremony took place at the Herkimer Reformed Church. The Rev. Walter Schneide officiated.

The bride was escorted by her father.

The maid of honor was Sabrina Wadd of Scotia. The bridal attendants were: Jess Torani of Gloversville; Rebecca Hansen of Lake Placid, Essex County; and Joni Gehebe and Jen Fisher, both of Queens.

The best man was Kyle Turski of Rotterdam. The groomsmen were: Jimmy Hahn of Sloatsburg, Rockland County; and Ryan Ritchie, Derek Tombs and Jake Smith, all of Fulton, Oswego County.

A reception for 140 guests took place at the Beardslee Castle, Little Falls, Herkimer County.

A wedding trip to Hawaii is planned for July. The couple resides in Schenectady.

The bride is a 2002 graduate of Gloversville High School and a 2006 graduate of the State University of New York at Cortland. She is an earth science teacher at The Greater Johnstown School District.

The bridegroom is a 2002 graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School, Fulton, and a 2006 graduate of SUNY Cortland. He is a global history teacher at the Clayton A. Bouton High School, Voorheesville, Albany County.
