Mrs. Irma Kowalczyk, 76 years old, of Smith Road, Amsterdam, N.Y., entered into rest Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Her family was by her side. She was born May 13, 1933, in Johnstown, a daughter of Edward and Crystal Simond Stuart and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Kowalczyk was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Broadalbin, was a member of the Perth Seniors and at one time was active in Girl Scouting. She loved playing cards. Irma was a homemaker, devoted to her family. She loved to cook and spend time with her family, from raising her children to gently assisting in the raising of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irma always had a smile and a good word to say about everyone. She will be missed by those who knew her and loved her. Irma's family thanks her for everything. They love her so much and will hold her in their hearts forever. They feel blessed to have had her in their lives and will never forget her.
Her husband, Joseph Kowalczyk, whom she married May 13, 1950, survives. Mrs. Kowalczyk is also survived by: three sons, Michael J. Kowalczyk of Perth, Peter F. (Valerie) Kowalczyk of Tribes Hill and Joseph F. (Robin) Kowalczyk Jr. of Broadalbin; three daughters, Patricia A. (Gary) Weaver of Perth, Judy (Richard) Hoyt of Gloversville and Rebecca A. (David) Dopp of Perth; three sisters, Mariena Shults of Johnstown, Phyllis (Alfred) Morse of Johnstown and Shirley (Larry) Ackernecht of California; nine grandchildren, Jay (Gabriella) and Eric (Kristina) Weaver, Tara, Joseph and Richard Hoyt, Kathleen Dopp, Heather and Joseph Kowalczyk III, Jonathan Sanders; eleven great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kara, Joshua, Jadon, Dominick, Darren, Zander, Chelsea, Richard, Alyssa and Kyle; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Dopp; and a sister, Diana Bentley.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. There will be no calling hours and cremation will take place at Vale Crematorium in Schenectady. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Amsterdam.
