GLEN - A town couple was arrested by Montgomery County sheriff's deputies Monday after an investigation showed they were home-schooling their four children without registering them with the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District.
The couple had not registered their children with the district for seven years, authorities said.
Richard W. Cressy, 47, and Margie A. Cressy, 41, were charged with four counts each of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Their children's ages range from 8 to 14. According to state education law, a home-school curriculum must be approved by the superintendent of the school district in which the home-schooled child lives.
The Cressys were issued appearance tickets. The case has been turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney and the Child Protective Unit for Family Court Action.
The Cressy family moved to the Fonda-Fultonville school district seven years ago and failed to register their home-schooled children with the district, said Montgomery County Investigator Bill Gilston. The children were not registered with the district they moved from either, Gilston said.
The children have not been removed from the household and the family met with school officials to talk about registering the children, Gilston said.
Gilston said the Cressys knew they were supposed to register their children.
