BROADALBIN - Tyler Wood scored 18 points to lead Broadalbin-Perth past Hudson Falls 61-43 on Thursday night.

The Patriots picked apart Hudson Falls' zone defense all night connecting from beyond the arc 10 times as a team with Wood hitting four of them.

The smooth stroking junior guard is fourth in the Foothills Council averaging 17.3 points per game after Thursday's game.

"Tyler is playing really well," said Broadalbin coach Tucker Gifford. "He's shooting the ball well and starting to become more of a complete player this year. I hope he just keeps taking strides every day. He was on varsity last year as a sophomore so we're hoping he really keeps going for us."

Broadalbin-Perth (2-3 overall, 1-2 Foothills) started the game on a 5-0 run courtesy of senior point guard Connor Sheridan. The Patriots controlled the opening tip and Sheridan drove to the hoop, drawing a foul and going to the line for two shots. He drained both free throws and then on the next B-P possession, Sheridan drained a 3-pointer to set the tone for the evening.

The 3-point barrage continued throughout the first quarter as Wood connected twice behind the arc and R.J. Pingitore pumped home his first of three 3-pointers on the game to give the Patriots a 14-5 edge after the first quarter.

Pingitore and Wood connected on 3-pointers again to key a 10-0 B-P run to start the second quarter and assert the Patriots lead. B-P led 26-9 heading into the halftime break.

"I was impressed with the way we came out after a tough one on Tuesday," Gifford said. "I was happy with the way we came out and pressured the ball and the energy was high. Holding a team to nine points is a pretty good defensive effort in the first half. I thought we moved the ball pretty well and were very active on offense."

B-P's ball pressure defense was too much for the slower Hudson Falls team to handle throughout much of the game. Brandon Pratt scored five of his eight points in a five second span in the third quarter when he hit a 3-pointer from the wing and then proceeded to steal the ball from the Tigers' point guard and put home a lay up to give the Patriots their biggest lead of the night at 20 points.

"We wanted to make up for Tuesday's game," Gifford said referring to the 58-54 loss to Johnstown. "We wanted to take it to the next step so we came out and pressured them full-court to see if we could get some easy baskets off steals and turnovers. I thought we did a pretty good job of that."

B-P had a balanced offense behind Wood as eight other players scored. Pingitore scored nine points all from 3-pointers while Pratt and Sheridan tallied eight points each. Andrew LaPolt and Kyle Frisch each chipped in six points as well. Caleb Gruet notched three points to round out the Patriots' scoring leaders.

"We moved the ball well to set-up shots," Gifford said. "We got into their zone a little bit and guys were wide open and knocking down shots. They played a 3-2 and we extended it out there a bit allowing us to get some good cuts and flashes to the basket."

Hudson Falls (1-4 Overall, 0-2 Foothills) was led by Ryan Irish's 14 points. Dakota Drake chipped in 10 points while Randy Kelly tallied seven points. Elijah Kassie, Brian Martin, and Ray Irish each scored four points to round out the Tigers offensive leaders.

B-P will get a stern test on Monday when they travel to face Gloversville.

Hudson Falls will host defending Section II Class A champion Scotia-Glenville on Saturday.
