Musician injured in Thruway bus crash

GLEN - The status of Rivers Cuomo, lead singer for alternative rock band Weezer, was unclear this morning after he suffered injuries when the band's tour bus crashed into a ditch off the Thruway on Sunday morning.
The bus was traveling east between the Fultonville and Amsterdam exits when it slid on ice, skidded into the median, then back into the eastbound lanes and into a guiderail, according to a news release from New York State Police.
The bus then crashed about 8 feet into a muddy ravine, according to the band's Web site. John Cox, 57, from Texas was driving the bus, which was registered to Night Train Coach.
"Kudos to the driver for somehow keeping things as level as they could be - surely this story would have been far more tragic if not for his actions," read a posting on the band's Web site.
Both Cuomo and the band's assistant, Sarah Kim, were transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Kim suffered two fractured ribs and a fractured lower vertebrae, while Cuomo had three cracked ribs, internal pain, and an injury to his lower leg, the band's Web site said.
St. Mary's Hospital spokeswoman Jackie Marciniak said the handling of Cuomo's injury was "business as usual."
Other than quite a few media calls, Marciniak said there was nothing unique about housing Cuomo at the hospital, and that other patients probably had no idea he was there.
Kim was treated and released while Cuomo was transported to another area hospital for "further evaluation of injuries," said Marciniak.
Marciniak would not say which hospital Cuomo had been transported to or the status of his injuries.
The bus driver, as well as Cuomo's wife and daughter, were not injured in the crash, according the band's Web site.
Famous for songs like "Buddy Holly" and "Undone - The Sweater Song," Weezer was formed in 1992 in Los Angeles.
The bus was headed to Boston for a concert today during the Ratitude tour. The remaining December dates on the tour have been canceled. The band has no information on rescheduled dates or ticket refunds.

This could have been so much worse....other vehicles involved, ending up in something much worse then a ditch etc. I'll bet they were happy to be close by a hospital... don't need Beverly Hills for that! LOL The real Bummer for him is he more than likely isn't performing today in Boston!

@mountaintop. Don't be ridiculous. Last I checked, we pay quite a bit in tolls to use the Thruway - it's not like they're short on funds.

This may only be the beginning of accidents if the Governor cuts everything and every budget. If salt had been down maybe the bus driver would have had better control.
