Police: Burglar hit same place twice
AMSTERDAM - The city Police Department arrested a Fort Johnson man Wednesday evening in connection with two burglaries at the same residence within the last week.
George A. Thomas Sr., 45, of 159 Antlers Road, was charged with first-degree burglary and unlawful imprisonment - both felonies - after he demanded $2,500 from a resident in the city Nov. 26, Thanksgiving evening, police said.
While police were still conducting their investigation, they were called to a second burglary of the same victim at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday.
In the second burglary, police said, Thomas ordered the male victim into the victim's vehicle at gunpoint.
The victim escaped the vehicle and went to the Stewart's shop on Market Street and found shelter with the assistance of the clerks and customers, police said.
Thomas fled the scene but was found at his residence. Police said he told them he had a shotgun and 13 rounds.
Thomas was arrested without incident after police contacted him by his cell phone and convinced him to meet them at a location in Fort Johnson, police said.
Thomas was sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
