Phyllis L. Shearer

Phyllis L. Shearer, 78, of Lake Drive, Northville, died Monday, November 23, 2009, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a short illness. She was born on October 27, 1931, in Little Falls, N.Y., the daughter of the late George E. and E. Pauline Jones Jenison. She was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1949, and a 1952 graduate of Crouse-Irving School of Nursing, becoming a registered nurse.

She married Thomas D. Shearer in Herkimer, N.Y., in 1955. She worked at Basset Hospital in Cooperstown, Herkimer Memorial Hospital, The Childs Hospital in Guilderland, Johnstown Hospital and lastly Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Northville, serving on the administrative board and was instrumental in starting the thrift shop at the church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and active in the Easter Star, The Red Hats, Hand Bell Choir, The Northville Public Library and service to others. She loved knitting, her rose garden, making Christmas wreaths and socializing with friends and family.

Survivors include: her husband, Thomas D. Shearer of Northville; three sons, Thomas (Pam) Shearer of Alexandria, Va., Richard Shearer of Galway and Daniel (Jennifer) Shearer of Annapolis, Md.; one daughter, Pamela (Steven) Junquera of Scotia; one brother, Edward (Ruth) Jenison of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Brian and Eric Junquera of Scotia, Daniel, Julia and Sophie Shearer of Annapolis, Md., and Megan Shearer of Alexandria, Va. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.

Friends may call on Friday, November 27, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge Street, Northville. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church of Northville, 301 S. Main Street, Northville, at 9 a.m.

A graveside service will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer, N.Y., at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Friends and family are invited to a gathering at the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday following the graveside service.
