Fulton?County EDC continues to pursue two ‘significant’ projects
By MICHAEL ANICH, The Leader-HeraldJOHNSTOWN - The Fulton County Economic Development Corp. is continuing to pursue two large and "significant" business projects for the county, with a decision likely soon, agency officials said Thursday.
EDC Executive Vice President Jeff Bray informed his board at the Holiday Inn that the agency is pursuing two projects for the county. He has alluded to pursuit of the projects the last few months, but he has declined to release more details.
"There are things out there that have taken up a lot of our time," he said.
Bray said one of the projects is being pursued through state contacts. He said the other potential project is one born from a relationship the EDC has to a business and could be "sizable" for the county. A decision on one of the projects, he said, is "probably imminent."
"One, in particular, is a project that will happen," Bray told his board.
In other business, Crossroads Incubator Corp. board President Joyce Royal discussed projects by the real estate component of the EDC. She said the CIC conducted a board meeting Tuesday concerning the Estee Commons II project.
The CIC said in September it plans to build 25 condominiums at the former Estee Middle School after finding out it will receive a state grant to pay for part of the project. Gov. David A. Paterson on Sept. 2 announced the award of $2.5 million to continue to restore the former school facing North Main Street into viable housing.
Royal said Gloversville Mayor-Elect Dayton King was given a tour of the former middle school building, where apartments are in some of the structure, and he was "impressed."
"It was nice to hear someone enthusiastic about the challenges that he has [as mayor]," Bray said of King.
Royal said the EDC continues to advertise for the Estee Commons II apartments.
In other projects, Royal said the CIC is working with Fulton-Montgomery Community College on new housing for the college.
She said the Johnstown Profession Office Complex -the former Johnstown Hotel at 55 E. Main St. redeveloped by the CIC - has two new tenants. Royal speculated the complex may be able to assist FMCC as well.

Their decision to locate her will probably go down the drain once they see the politics that are going on with the City of Johnstown and the extension of water/sewer lines for WalMart SC. Who wants to build, or try to build a business here when we can't get our act together.

EDC has buckets of $$ and only 2 projects in the works. No one wants to do busines in this area even with free doe. There is no one in G'ville who can aford to live in Estee Commons, a big waste of $$ and broken promises.

2.5 million dollars WHY there??? should have went to build apartments for low income retirees... they make money renting those apartments out... another blow to the low income retirees that have paid their whole lives and get nothing!!! could have also gone to raise their retirement amount so they can afford their food and meds...
