Intoxicated motorist crashes into cemetery, destroys stones: police

POSTED: November 20, 2009

GLOVERSVILLE - An intoxicated motorist drove his vehicle through a locked gate at the Jewish Cemetery on Spruce Street Thursday night and destroyed multiple headstones, city police said.

Police said Daniel M. Gifford, 21, of 230 Kunz Road, Broadalbin, was ticketed on a charge of driving while intoxicated after the 9:47 p.m. incident.

Police said officers responded to the end of Spruce Street at the Jewish Cemetery.

Police said Gifford also destroyed a lawn in the cemetery.

Gifford's vehicle was stuck in soft ground after officers arrived, police said.

The suspect was held for arraignment in City Court on the misdemeanor charge, authorities reported.
