Program to focus on tax credit

November 19, 2009
The Leader Herald

FORT PLAIN -Julian Adams from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation's Field Services Bureau will outline the federal preservation tax credit program at 9 a.m. Friday at the Fort Plain Free Library.

The program offers owners of historic commercial, industrial or residential rental properties a federal income tax credit equal to 20 percent of approved rehabilitation costs, a news release said.

Through the state preservation tax credit program, commercial properties that qualify for the federal program are also eligible for an additional state income tax credit. In addition, homeowners may be eligible for a state income tax credit for the rehabilitation of owner-occupied residences listed on the state and national registers.

Adams will be joined by Erin Tobin, regional director of technical and grant programs for the Preservation League of Eastern New York.

The Preservation League recently granted the village money to conduct a cultural resource survey.

No registration is necessary. The public is invited. For more information, call 993-4646.
