Shirley A. Beekman, age 73, of Newport News, Va., formerly of Gloversville, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2009, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness. She was born on May 26, 1936, in Sammonsville, a daughter of the late George Beekman and Flora Frye Beekman. She was employed locally for several area businesses until her retirement. Shirley was a member of the North Bush United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Andy "Fest" Beekman of Amsterdam; one daughter, Sandy Beekman of Newport News, Va.; one brother, George Beekman of Mayfield; four sisters, Ida Mae Pedrick of Mayfield, Beverly Shults of Johnstown, Carol "Bobby" Nethaway of Johnstown, and Linda Hayner of Caroga Lake; six grandchildren, Joseph, Andy, Justin and Robin Beekman, Georgeann Atwood and Bailey Beekman; 10 great-grandchildren nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by: her sisters, Elizabeth, Phyllis, Dorothy, Joan, and Jeanie.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. The Dr. Rev. R.W. Williams will preside.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in North Bush Cemetery.
