Dorothy Mary and Joseph Robert Hanchar of Johnstown recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Dorothy Mary Sweeney and Joseph Robert Hanchar were married Oct. 22, 1949, in a nuptial mass at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Johnstown. Lifelong Johnstown residents, they still live in the same house Joe Hanchar and his friend, Jack Boscotti, built 54 years ago.
They have two children, Mark J. Hanchar of Barrington, R.I. and Deborah R. Hanchar of Great Falls, Va.; and two grandsons, Scott T. Hanchar of Ventura, Calif. and Jonathon E. Hanchar of New York City.

Joe Hanchar is a World War II veteran and was a self-employed painting contractor, retiring in 1987. He is a renowned New York Yankees and New York Giants fan and loves to watch games throughout the baseball and football seasons.
Dorothy Hanchar graduated from Fulton-Montgomery Community College in 1970, became a substitute school teacher and then worked as a stenographer/secretary for the New York state Office of Probation before retiring from the New York state Office of Environmental Conservation in 1989. She watches the Notre Dame games with Joe Hanchar.
Traveling throughout the United States, especially to visit their "kids," is one of their favorite activities; they also take long drives to enjoy the upstate New York scenery. They both love to dance and play cards, and initiate many family pitch tournaments.
