JV team was remarkable
We want to write to say something in response to Mr. Papa, who wrote about Johnstown football. Never once has the junior varsity team been praised for all the hard work it put into winning six of its seven games.
When our son came home from one of his practices, he said he was told that JV means nothing to the high school. It is all varsity. It broke our hearts. They don't mean anything, but more than once, varsity took their teammates away from them to fill in for kids who were misbehaving or got hurt during their games.
They took something special from those boys that they can't ever get back (their Broadalbin game). No one other than their parents know how much that hurt those boys (to the point they were in tears). Why was that fair to them? That was the only game they lost right to their championship game.
Also, we want to commend Coach Hale and Coach Nicolas. They are great coachs and deserve to be recognized for the awesome job they did this season. Maybe they should be moved up to varsity to coach.
We want to tell the whole JV team we are very proud of you and we think someone should let you guys know you did an awesome job this season. We truly enjoyed watching your games and cheering you all on. These boys are the champions.
Maybe if JV were recognized a little more, we would have a better team for varsity if they were appreciated from the start. Johnstown sports is more than the varsity.
