H.S. Volleyball Roundup: Mayfield, Amsterdam advance
By The Leader-HeraldMAYFIELD - After cruising to victory in the opening two games of Tuesday's Section II Class D quarterfinals, Mayfield rallied from a 5-1 early third-game deficit to defeat Waterford-Halfmoon in straight sets, 25-13, 25-8 and 25-23.
The top-seeded Lady Panthers advance to Thursday's semifinal round and will play No. 4 Argyle, which defeated No. 5 Germantown to earn its semifinal berth.
No. 2 Lake George and No. 3 Hartford will square off in the other semifinal match. The Class D semifinals are scheduled to be played at South Glens Falls High School Thursday. Mayfield will play Argyle at 5 p.m., while Lake George and Hartford will play at 7 p.m.
Kacie Edwards led Mayfield with 10 kills and three aces, while Cassi Brancato had 15 service points, four aces and 11 assists. Christie Showers contributed seven kills and four service points, while Whitney Ostrander had five kills and two blocks and Kelsey Henry finished with six assists.
Waterford was led by Kelsey Miller's three kills and Aimee Lefebvre's four aces.
Class A
Amsterdam 3, South Glens Falls 2
AMSTERDAM - Brandie Kreisel and Bayley Archinal turned in standout performances to lead No. 4 Amsterdam past No. 5 South Glens Falls, 25-17, 17-25, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-17.
Kreisel and Archinal both recorded nine kills and two aces, while Kreisel added six blocks to her stats and Archinal had 11 blocks.
Paige Archinal finished with two kills, 11 assists and five blocks, while Ashley DeRose had five kills, five blocks and an ace and Tina Francisco contributed five kills.
Amsterdam advances to face top-seeded Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake at 5 p.m. Thursday at Saratoga Springs High School.
Class C
Loudonville Christian 3, Canajoharie 1
LOUDONVILLE - Canajoharie won the opening game 15-25, but Loudonville Christian charged back to take the next three games 25-16, 25-14 and 25-9 to advance to the Class C semifinals Thursday at Schalmont.
Loudonville Christian will face Schenectady Christian at 5 p.m. match.
