Races set in Montgomery County

Competition for supervisor job in four towns

Voters throughout Montgomery County will find challenged supervisor races in four of the county's 10 towns when the polls open Tuesday.

Three political newcomers will face off in an attempt to replace retiring Mohawk?Supervisor Edward Paton. Democrat Wayne T. DeMallie, Republican Raymond P. Tylutki Jr. and Conservative Gregory W. Rajkowski will compete for the position.

In Minden, incumbent Republican Supervisor Thomas Quackenbush will face a challenge from Democrat Joan M. Grainer and independent Michael W. McGovern.

Democrat Donald Mead Jr. will face Republican Brian D. Sweet in a race for Palatine supervisor.

In Charleston, Incumbent Republican Supervisor Shayne T. Walters will be challenged by Democrat Christoph Piening for his current position.

Elections that will be contested across the county are as follows:

City of Amsterdam

Incumbent Republican 1st Ward Alderman Joseph M. Isabel will be challenged by Democrat Chad R. Ahr.

In the city's 2nd ward, Democrat Robin L. Raciborski, Republican Julie A. Pierce and Independence party candidate Kevin W. Phelps will compete for the alderman seat. Democrat Jeffery P. Stark will face incumbent Conservative Barbara M. Johnson in a competition for the 2nd ward supervisor slot.

Republican Gina M. DeRossi, who won a Republican primary, will face Democrat Robert A. Martin and independent candidate Ronald G. Wierzbicki in a race for 3rd ward alderman. Martin defeated Wierzbicki in a Democratic primary.

Incumbent Democratic 4th Ward Alderman William D. Wills will face a challenge from Republican Diane M. Hatzenbuhler. In addition, 4th Ward incumbent Democratic Supervisor David J. Dybas will face Republican Barbara S. Wheeler in a race for his job.

Richard J. Leggiero, the incumbent Republican alderman in the city's 5th Ward, will be challenged by independent candidate Mark Capone. Incumbent 5th Ward Republican Supervisor Karl R. Baia will face Democrat Valerie A. Holm in a race for his job.

Town of Amsterdam

Incumbent Democratic Town Justice Herbert Menge, Democratic town attorney Deborah Slezak and Republican Town Justice Aloysius J. Kozlowski will compete for two town judge positions.

Canajoharie

Republican Eric J. Bowerman will face independent candidate Timothy R. Jones in a race for highway superintendent.

Charleston

Democrat Stanley M. Korona Jr. will face Republican Jeffrey J. Downes in a race for highway superintendent.

Florida

Incumbent Democratic Highway Superintendent William G. Weller will face a challenge from independent Raymond Mars in a race for Weller's job.

Democrat Frederick W. Walsh, Republican Eric M. Mead and Republican Daniel P. Wilson will compete for two town council spots.

Minden

Republican Town Clerk/Tax Collector Janet I. Trumbull, who is the incumbent, will face Democrat Regina C. Frasier in a race for her position.

Current Republican council members Stephen R. Heiser and Janice L. Zoller will face independent Debra L. Couser for two town council spots.

Republican Thomas E. Yager will compete with Democrat Cindea L. Bradley for the town's assessor position.

Mohawk

Incumbent Republican town councilwoman Bette A. Papa will face fellow Republican James H. Hoffman and Democrat Mary Lou Crane in a race for two town council seats.

Root

Democrat Donald W. Oeser will face Republican Scott A. Bobar in a race for highway superintendent.

Republican town council incumbents Gary Kamp and Edward Tangen will compete with Democrat LuEmma Quackenbush for two town council slots.

St. Johnsville

Incumbent Democratic Highway Superintendent Peter D. Battisti Sr. will face Republican Darren J. Bellen in a race for his job.

Republican Ronald R. Millington will face independents Susan Handy and Timothy P. Smith in a race for two town council slots.

There are no local races in the town of Glen.

It's my understand that Mr. Bellen is out for a back injury (perhaps on disablility)from the State of New York, can he realy perform the job of Highway Superintendent to the extent that it needs to be done, and , what's to say that he won't "injure" something while performing that job, and have to stop working that job as well, Causing additional cost to a town that cannot afford it. Mr. Battisti is doing a fine job, and I support him in this election, as I hope all of the voters will.
