Wells upsets Willsboro

WILLSBORO - The seventh-seeded Wells girls soccer team upset second-seeded Willsboro 2-1 in overtime Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Section VII Class D tournament.

Lizzie Perkins drove a direct kick into the upper left corner from just outside the penalty area for the game winner 4:16 into the first overtime period.

Heather Abbott staked the Lady Indians to an early lead, finishing off a pass from Perkins 22:41 into the game.

Willsboro evened the score with 37:09 left in regulation when Marion James finished off a Krystal Porter assist.

Willsboro finished with a 21-9 advantage in shots. Emily MacKenzie made 14 saves in net for Wells, while Stevie Burrows recorded six stops for Willsboro.

Wells advances to play No. 3 Lake Placid, a 7-0 winner of Westport, Tuesday at Lake Placid.
