Jean Ann Kraeger Blessing
Jean Ann Kraeger Blessing, 67, of Piseco, New York, died Sunday, October 11, 2009, at her home. She was born September 15, 1942, in Utica, N.Y., the daughter of Harold and Marie Helmer Kraeger. She moved to the Piseco area in 1949 where her mother and stepfather, Royce Barnes, ran Piseco Lake Lodge (Barnes). In 1958, she moved to the Capital Region, and on January 6, 1959, she married Chester Blessing at The Church of St. Claire, Colonie, N.Y. She returned to Piseco in 1972 to take over the Piseco Lake Lodge with her husband and her two children, Scott and Lynne. Piseco Lake Lodge was sold in 1996, but Jean remained in Piseco.
Over the years, Jean was active in the Piseco Ridge Riders, groomed snowmobile trails, the Chamber of Commerce, TWIGS, women's and couples golf leagues. She was always willing to supply local organizations with whatever they requested.
She is survived by: her husband of 50 years, her children and their spouses, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Higgins Bay Cemetery, Piseco, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078, or the Helping Hands Caregivers, 81 White Birch Lane, Indian Lake, NY 12842, who helped take care of Jean in the last few years. Arrangements are by Prince-Boyd & Hyatt, Home for Funerals, Inc., Rome, N.Y.
