BROADALBIN - A drunken driver intentionally hit two patrol cars while deputies attempted to pull her over, Fulton County Sheriff's Department officials said this morning.

Deputies said Rose M. LaFountain, 39, of 239 Southline Road, Middle Grove, was driving her 1996 Chevy pickup on the wrong side of Route 29 in Broadalbin at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday when she forced another vehicle off the road.

Deputy Robert J. Stemmler pulled alongside her to guide her into the proper lane and pull her over, according to the Sheriff's Department report.

Stemmler, who was operating a patrol car in emergency mode, successfully guided LaFountain back into the eastbound lane and then pulled in front of her. Deputies said LaFountain then struck Stemmler's patrol car from behind.

As a second, unidentified, deputy pulled behind LaFountain, she backed into the second patrol car, striking and damaging it. She then drove forward and intentionally struck Stemmler's vehicle again before coming to a stop, deputies said.

LaFountain was charged with reckless driving, failure to keep right and driving while intoxicated, deputies said.

Officials said Stemmler suffered minor injuries in the crash. Information on his medical and work status were unavailable this morning.

Officials were unable to say what damage the two patrol cars sustained in the crash. They said Stemmler's vehicle sustained damage mostly to its rear right side. LaFountain's vehicle was towed from the scene.
