John Longo, 63, died at his home in Hebron, New York, after a short illness on September 29, 2009. John was a resident of Riverhead for over 30 years, a professor at Suffolk County Community College and a member of the Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue before moving to Washington County, New York.

John was born in Brooklyn, the son of John and Rosalie (Randazzo) Longo and lived in Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island until attending SUNY Albany Graduate School of Library Science where he met Carol Alric of Gloversville. John and Carol were married in 1971. John was an administrator in the Library of Suffolk County Community College Selden Campus until his retirement in 1997.

John and Carol's son Michael is a teacher in the Corinth Middle School. Their daughter Anne lives and teaches in Middletown, N.Y. with her husband David Henry.

John enjoyed vacationing and gardening at his camp on Route 30 in Hope for over 15 years, before becoming "king of the mountain" in Hebron, New York where his daylily gardens became his passion. John was a well known member of all of his home communities. In Hebron, his four mile morning walk often

took and hour more than usual due to conversations with neightbors or a stop to help someone in need. A man of few words, John was able to lighten the room with his jovial antics and colorful pranks. There was always a twinkle in his eye and he was dearly loved by family and friends.

In addition to his wife and children, John is survived by: his mother, Rosalie of Lake Ronkonkoma; brother, Thomas and sister-in-law Patricia of Nesconnset. He is also survived by his extensive family of loving in-laws and "outlaws".

A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 3rd, at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Haynes House of Hope, P.O. Box 285, Granville, New York 12832.

Arrangements are under the direction of the RobertM. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY 12832.
