Floyd William ‘Bill’ Abrams

Floyd William "Bill" Abrams, 82, a lifelong resident of Piseco, passed away peacefully on September 29, after a brief illness. He was born in Gloversville, the son of Floyd D. and Lena Judway Abrams. After graduation from Ithaca High School in 1944, Bill enlisted in the Air Force and served overseas in Okinawa as a flight mechanic. Following his discharge, he and his father worked together in the construction business for many years.

Bill was very active in the community. He served for many years as an assessor and zoning officer and was involved in many local and state organizations. He was a life member of the Piseco Volunteer Fire Department, NYS Association of Fire Chiefs and F.A.S.N.Y.; a member/officer of the Piseco Fish and Game Club for over 60 years; the longest serving NYS Fire Instructor (41 years) and also served 45 years as the Hamilton County Deputy Fire Coordinator. He was a founding member of the Piseco Ridge Riders, a member of V.F.W. Post 7228 and numerous other fire safety and wildlife organizations.

Bill was the loving husband of Roberta H. Abrams for 59 years. She predeceased him on November 17, 2008. He is survived by :his four children, Marcia (Larry) Dunham of South Burlington, Vt., Craig (Ruth) Abrams of Summerville, S.C, Wendy (William) Steelhammer of Long Beach, Calif. and Cynthia (Peter) Bulger of Delmar N.Y.; four grandchildren, Peter J. (Zareen) Bulger, Mark Bulger, Lori (Joseph) Linn and David Abrams; three great-grandchildren and several cousins.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. In retirement, he and Roberta traveled extensively. For the past several years, an important part of his life was the morning coffee get together with friends at Casey's.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation for the exceptional care Bill received from all his caregivers at St. Peter's Hospital.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, October 2, at the Northville Funeral Service, 401 Bridge St., Northville, NY. His life will be celebrated at a service to be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 3, at the Adirondack Bible Chapel, Route 8, Piseco. Interment at the Higgins Bay Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Piseco Volunteer Fire Department, Piseco, NY 12139 would be appreciated.
