At age 78, Albert J. Beard Jr. passed away Friday, September 4, 2009, after a nine year battle with cancer. He is now home with his Lord. He is survived by three daughters, Rebecca (Rick) Marshall of Shorewood, Minnesota, Elizabeth (James) Blackburn of Webster, New York, Sarah (Michael) Daiss of Sheridan, Indiana; one son, Bradley (Gwendolyn) Beard of Edina, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Albert, born at home in Ephratah, N.Y., was a graduate of Mayfield (N.Y.) High School (1947) and Cornell University (1952) and Veterans of the Korean War. Living in Cooperstown, NY, he sold insurance for Farm Family for 4 decades. He was an avid golfer and retired to Calabash, NC twelve years ago. He was an active member of the Cooperstown School Board, Milford Rotary Club, First Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown, N.Y. and Calabash Presbyterian Church in Calabash, NC. He was well cared for by his family and the staff at N.C. Little Hospice at 7019 Lynmar Lane, Edina, MN 55435. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to N.C. Little Hospice (non-profit organization providing end of life care). On September 25, 2009, the burial service for family and close friends is at the East Bloomfield Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Following the burial is a memorial celebration service at 11:15 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in East Bloomfield, N.Y. On October 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. a memorial celebration service is planned at the Calabash Presbyterian Church in Calabash, N.C.
